Still from Star to Singularity

What it does

**Star to Singularity** is an interactive simulation that lets you explore the dramatic birth and growth of a black hole. The journey begins with a massive dying supergiant star moments before it explodes in a spectacular supernova, scattering a vast cloud of glowing gas into space. As the explosion fades, gravity pulls the remaining core together, forming a young black hole surrounded by an accretion disk. You can interact with the simulation by feeding particles into the black hole. Each particle is color-coded by temperature—red represents hot matter, while blue represents cooler matter—allowing you to observe how different material behaves as it spirals inward. As the black hole consumes more matter, it grows larger and more energetic. However, adding too many particles causes the system to become unstable, launching powerful, corkscrew-shaped jets of plasma perpendicular to the accretion disk, creating a spectacular quasar powered by the black hole's immense energy.
