Black Hole Dynamics in an Axion Field

Still from Silent Superradiance

What it does

Silent Superradiance is an interactive visualization inspired by one of the most intriguing predictions in black hole physics: the extraction of rotational energy from a rapidly spinning Kerr Black Hole through superradiance. Rather than acting solely as a cosmic sink this simulation explores the idea of the black hole as an energy source, transferring part of its rotational energy to a surrounding axion cloud while gradually losing its spin. This reversal of the familiar "black hole only consume" narrative forms the foundation of the visualization. This visualization combines an orbiting accretion disk, a gravitationally lensed photon ring, an evolving standing wave axion cloud, and outward propagating gravitational wave inspired ripples into a real time scene. A live scientific interface allows users to vary the black holes spin and axion coupling strength while observing how these quantities influence the system.
